Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution-1 AMG Powerpack. Concours Condition.
With the BMW M3 Sport Evolution was released for DTM homologation, Mercedes Benz responded in March 1989 with the 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution debuted at the Geneva Auto Show to enthusiastic acclaim. Only 502 units of the Evolution model were produced for homologation in compliance with DTM rules of a minimum of 500 units of production and by the beginning of June 1989 all cars had not only been produced but pre-sold, each one in blue-black (199 U) metallic. Because these were only built for homologation, at great cost to Mercedes they were only ever supplied in LHD. The Mercedes Benz W124 series was the most successful car range in the company's entire history. Today the 124 range is appreciated not only for it's design & engineering excellence but also for it's longevity & continued practicality. According to Mercedes online info a total of 2,562,143 units of the 124 series (of all variations) were manufactured during just over 11 years in production. Of these, only 13,768 were manufactured as E320 coupe models (built from end of 1992 to early 1996).Of these less than 850 cars were final-production facelift examples with 5 speed transmissions. Impreza 22B Tribute by Launsport, Japan. One of the last built!
Subaru produced their limited edition 22B wide body coupe version of the WRX STI between March and August 1998. The 22B was used to commemorate both Subaru's 40th anniversary as well as the third consecutive manufacturer's title for Subaru in the FIA World Rally Championship. All 413 Japanese cars sold immediately and of these, only 24 units were produced for export markets: 16 for the UK, 5 for Australia and 3 prototypes. Approximately 50 of the Japanese cars were imported privately into the UK. Subaru Impreza WRX STi Version 7. Beautiful original rust free example.
The GDB series Impreza Sti with 280 bhp was introduced in 2001 and was the first of the newer models with 6 Speed gearbox & Brembo brakes, amongst other improvements to interior, styping, etc. As usual, the Japanese kept the best for themselves, with the UK, Europe, USA etc only getting the 2.5 engine in their GDB models, which although larger capacity made the same power and by way of larger bore in each cylinder (& longer stroke) meant that reliability was inferior as a result for non JDM models.The older classic Impreza Sti's were seriously capable cars that provided more performance than say a Lancia Delta Integrale Evolution. Mercedes Benz E500 W124. V8 5.0 48v. Ultimate Q-Car Built by Porsche. Stunning Throughout!
This November 1994 example is a rare facelift model E500 W124 endowed with a 5.0 litre V8 48 Valve engine producing 322 bhp & 480 N·m (354 lb·ft) of torque. A car developed & built jointly between Mercedes Benz & Porsche to beat BMW's hand-built E34 M5, the E500's build quality was the pinnacle of Mercedes Benz quality. Whilst other models of the W124 were built in 3 days, the E500 took 18 days each to build, with the shell being built & painted first, then taken to Porsche for fitting of mechanicals, then back to Mercedes and back to Porsche throughout the build.
