For about 5 years & from extensive experience sourcing these for over 16 years we've been predicting that 32 GT-R's were destined to become prized classics and In the last couple of years we have begun to see a sharp decline in availability in Japan of the best Skyline GT-Rs and a steady rise in values, especially for high spec. rust free examples. As they're increasingly desirable and demand is strongly exceeding supply we are seeing the best examples fetch increasingly higher & higher prices in Japan, making it very difficult to buy replacement stock. It's a no-brainer that prices in other countries will rise sharply in a short space of time too, especially as the US market has long been wanting to import these cars legally. Now the early examples are 25 years old, demand for these cars is skyrocketing...
The R32 GT-R is a playstation generation cult car and was built by Nissan to show off what it was capable of during the Japanese bubble economy and has now become a legend, sold only in Japan with a sprinkling of examples in Australia officially. Many are already dead from neglect, abuse and poor quality modifications so there are few really nice examples left, even in Japan.
This example is one of the best looking we've had & has been beautifully preserved and considerably improved, not only externally, where the end result is stunning, but mechanically too. The interior is also well preserved with cloth that has much less fading than usual on these 32's, a sign it's been stored indoors & out of the elements & sun when not in use.
Performance modifications: Power & cosmetics have been improved for enhanced but sensible road use. Tuning has been completed by Garage Saurus, who are known in Japan as one of the top Skyline tuners since 1990, always using top quality components. There is an M's Intake kit, which offers good filtration without restriction. To allow higher boost to be run there's an HKS intercooler hard pipe kit, connected to an HKS Type R Intercooler. HKS GT-SS turbos including HKS actuators allow up to 1.4 bar boost settings to be safely run, combined with an HKS 1.2mm metal head gasket. A Saurus ROM ECU is fitted and boost levels are controlled by an HKS EVC 'Black Limited' Boost controller. There's a Nismo front pipe feeding exhaust gases via a Saurus Drag-R Exhaust which makes a good sound under load without being excessively loud. With increased boost, cooling has also been taken care of with a Top Secret Super Radiator, With Racing oil catch tank & Greddy 9 row oil cooler kit with remote oil filter mount & thermostatic housing. Note care has been taken to smooth & polish the original intake plenum, 'Twin Turbo' intake pipe and intake pipe to the rear turbo. The clutch is an OS Giken twin plate unit. To help lay power down effectively there is a Nismo GT rear Limited Slip Differential complete with a finned V-Spec rear diff cover to maximize cooling. The cam & coilpack cover set has been repainted in gold, complete with a plaque from a Nur Spec R34.
Further Possible Power Upgrades: Currently the car is running standard injectors & boost is set to 0.9 bar which shows the turbo upgrade was for reliability, rather than for production of increased power, but it wouldn't require much more in terms of upgrades or cost to be able to run up to 1.4 bar of boost. Just injectors, air flow meters and a fuel pressure regulator & possibly an upgraded in-tank fuel pump would be needed, in addition to a remappable ECU since the Saurus Ron ECU cannot be remapped except by Saurus themselves. We keep a stock of used Power FC's for such possibilities, which are much cheaper than new - and RK tuning can complete mapping too. The most costly upgrades are already taken care of with regard to turbos, cooling, etc. though.
Suspension & wheels: There is an HKS Hypermax coilover set combined with original option front & rear strut braces. Wheels are Work Meister S1 3 piece alloys of sizes: 18 x 9.5 + 11 (Rear) and 18 x 9.5 + 24 (front) with good quality new tyres at each corner. They're a stunning set of rims, which suit the red bodywork beautifully.
Interior Modifications: A set of Omori 52mm water, oil temp & oil pressure gauges are fitted in place of the original 3 gauge set. When taking pictures, we noted that the temp gauges don't seem to be showing any reading, which would indicate a power problem, possibly a bad earth since both are not working. We will investigate this before the car leaves Japan, or have RK tuning check & rectify when the car is with them. There is also a Greddy 52mm boost gauge, Auto Meter racing rev counter with adjustable shift light. As the original was worn, we have fitted a Robson Leather re-trimmed original steering wheel and matching side brake & shift boot. As with all the 32's we supply, a new set of Nismo floor mats have also been fitted.
Exterior Cosmetics: This car comes with the most desirable original Nismo styling options which include original bumper ducts, bonnet lip, side skirts and rear spoiler lip. A set of N1 headlights are also featured and these have an HID conversion too. There's also a set of original side visors. We note these front & rear spoiler lips are not corroded, which indicate this car has not sat outside when not in use. Essentially all of the most desirable Nismo original styling items are fitted, combined these are worth over £1,500 used in Japan.
Further Improvements available: Although this car needs nothing added if wanted, there's still more things the new owner can do to personalise for his own GT-R perfection (We're here to help!). Note: Although it will run fine as is, as always we would recommend having a power FC fitted and mapped (We usually carry a stock of used ones precisely for this) whilst the car is at RK tuning, for enhanced running on UK fuels with improved power & response. We would also recommend a high quality set of pads from Project Mu or Endless as the current ones get used up, which will help improve stopping performance greatly. Standard equipment includes: ABS, Hicas 4 wheel steering, Atessa 4WD, Climate Control A/C, PAS, remote mirrors with retract mode, Central Locking, rear wiper, etc. This car has evidently been fastidiously maintained. The engine bay, interior, carpets, indicator stalk, pedal rubbers, oil pressure, etc.- all indicate low wear and no abuse.
Body condition: Body condition is excellent. No rust at all to the underside. We noted only a light dent on the edge of the passenger door and a very small pin dent on the o/s rear quarter. These will be repaired as part of preparation in the UK, provided access can be gained behind by a dent removal specialist. The rear bumper has some minor marks in the lacquer, as shown in pictures. These are too minor to require repainting of the bumper but are mentioned to give a full report. Note there is some denting to the jacking points as is usual. This is a design fault on all Skyline GT-R's, where damage occurs is the original jack is used to lift the car. Only through using hydraulic lifts always can such damage be avoided. It can only be seen when the car is in the air.
Interior Condition: As with pretty much every 32 there are some bubbles formed on the dashboard as shown in pictures. It's rare to come across a 32 interior still so original 23 years after production, with so little fading to the seat material's colour. Aside from other signs noted of the exterior cosmetics, this further serves to confirm this Skyline GT-R has been mostly stored under shelter from UV light which tends to bleach the material.
Engine & Test Drive: After careful warming and extensive checks we took this car out to test & can confirm it drives very well. It's got good smooth power and all signs of a well maintained car. Excellent oil pressure (5kg/cm2 cold & 2.5 kg/cm2 when warm) at idle shows this is an engine in good health. Engine Clutch feels as if it's got plenty of life the gearbox is notably smooth and lacking in any of the often found signs of synchromesh wear found on these cars. We found no faults to report at all. Car pulls strongly from just under 3,000 rpm with power climbing all the way through the power range and is making approximately 350 -370 bhp. The tightness of it's feel, lack of stone chips and care / money lavished on it suggests this car was used as a weekend toy.
Make no mistake - this is one of the best R32's we've had this year and that's not something we say lightly (If you look through our history you'll see we only select the best available examples for stock). Prices of top Skyline R32 GT-R's in Japan are continuously strenghtening so we're unlikely to find many more good examples in 2015. Supplies of good 32's at affordable prices are pretty much dried up, which is why only Newera is able to supply cars of this caliber now.
